Ideal Laptop Criteria for Graphic Designers

Ideal Laptop Criteria for Graphic Designers

Unlike other ordinary jobs, graphic design requires a device that is quite ideal for high-level work operations. There are several requirements that are best fulfilled for effectiveness and work efficiency. Graphic work generally does not dwell on one application or software. There are several software that support each other to achieve maximum results, for example Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw, Autocad, Sketchup, 3Ds Max and so on.

Sometimes to design one item several applications must be run simultaneously. Of course this is very influential on the specifications of the laptop used. For that, here are the criteria for laptops that must be owned in work related to graphic design.

Processor

The processor is the main part that does the hardest work. The processor is responsible for doing all the logical and mathematical calculations of each command. If the processor in a device is still low it will make the laptop/pc heat up (overheated) so that it is no longer able to respond to commands. Generally designers tend to look for Intel Core Series processors with high GHz frequency levels, for example 2.4 GHz, 2.6 GHz and so on. The point is that the higher the frequency the faster the device works. Minimum for graphic design is highly recommended to use an Intel Core i5 processor.

RAM

Before talking RAM, make sure your device can work on a 64-bit operating system. Because 64-bit computers can process 264 data at a time. This is important because the operating system below it is 32 bits can only read about 2 GB of RAM. Then what is RAM? RAM or Random Access Memory is a temporary storage memory, when the computer starts. The function of RAM is to speed up data processing. The greater the RAM you have, the faster the device will work. For this reason, it is highly recommended that you have an 8 GB RAM capacity and have an additional memory slot that you can upgrade to the next level. The average RAM usage in graphic design reaches 4-5 GB. This figure can illustrate how hard your laptop/computer must work.

VGA

VGA (Video Graphics Adapter) or also known as GPU is the part that is responsible for handling the visual appearance of a laptop/pc. The heavier the task that needs to be displayed, the VGA capacity also needs to be improved. To get a good working speed, it is recommended that VGA has a minimum capacity of 2GB. You need to pay attention not to choose a device with VGA on board. This type of VGA is embedded directly into the work system so it still has to share with RAM memory. For maximum performance, choose devices with separate graphic cards such as NVIDIA GeForce and ATI Radeon. Most designers choose NVIDIA video cards that are proven to be powerful in terms of game performance and graphics.

Screen and Resolution

Consider having a device with a screen of at least 15.6 inches. Then the resolution is highly recommended using 1366 x 768 px resolution, even up to 1600 x 900 px for better results. Simply put in the design you will play with color, so that high resolution can show colors and images in more detail.

Hard drive (HDD)

Graphic design work requires not only large storage media, but also fast. For hard disk capacity, as much as possible with a capacity of 1 TB or more. In this case you will be struggling with many files, do not let when you work a warning appears ‘Low Memory’ immediately the application becomes jammed. In addition, sometimes the files that you store are very large, if you delete very dear, then you need a large capacity hard drive. For matters of speed other than hard drive you also need additional devices namely SSD (Solid State Drive). So look for a device that has an SSD, so the processor work becomes a lighter application installed on the SSD, while work files are placed on the HDD.

For our information, we write it based on our experience as a graphic designer. Hopefully useful for you before choosing the device that you will use.
